A Microwave That Cooks Evenly
Date: 2009-09-16 | Rating: 5
I consider buying a kitchen appliance to be risky. The cost and labor involved to install means I am going to be stuck with whatever decision I make for years--unless I really mess up and have to replace it early. So I researched this purchase to death. I replaced a worn out GE microwave/convection oven. Based on its performance and how we actually used the microwave, I decided to forget about any of the convection/speed cooking "bells and whistles" currently being offered. These features significantly increase the costs of the product, I question whether the features truly perform as marketed, and I am not sure they add value to our family. I decided to focus on (1) even microwave cooking, (2) convenience, and (3) aesthetics. That led me to this Panasonic model. I am quite happy with this microwave. It isn't perfect, but it is a significant upgrade compared to our previous model. The installation was easy, and instructions were good. I used my own longer screws to connect the bracket to the studs, but I am sure those provided are sufficient. The microwave says "Genius" on the control panel. Genius may be a stretch but it has its strong points. Maybe it should say "Honors Student" or "Professor". The Sensor Reheat function works very well. Take something--anything--out of the fridge, put it in the oven, press Sensor Reheat, press Start, and it heats it very evenly without any thought by the user. My high school son, who is critical of almost everything at this stage in his life, uses this feature all the time. He recently said, "This is a serious upgrade," as he took his afternoon snack out of the oven. (I'd jokingly say that praise from him is as scarce as a Nobel Prize.) The Inverter Turbo Defrost hasn't done a perfect job for me, but it gets the job done. Maybe a B, maybe B- grade. I defrosted 5 frozen half chicken breasts, following directions per owner's manual, including a rest period afterwards. The first problem is that the Inverter Turbo Defrost feature will not work unless the turntable is operating. A 9x13 baking dish fits into the oven, but it is too large to use with the turntable activated. So, it was difficult for me to spread out the chicken breasts. I packed the chicken into a 9x7x2.5 baking dish and it worked... but not completely evenly. Some frost and some signs of being actually cooked. Same results with other scenarios, but not as pronounced. It is still a valuable tool, but to fully execute a near-perfect defrost, I'd have to use power level and time manually, or maybe divide the frozen food into two batches. (Feeding my family a half-sized entree is not acceptable.) The sensor cook feature... I have never been a fan of a microwave oven having a set list of items that it can cook with a push or two of button(s). What about the items that **I** want to prepare? It has "hot dog" and "frozen pocket sandwich," but doesn't have "burrito". ;-) Maybe a burrito is #6, "frozen entree"? Well, it appears to be across the industry, so no use complaining. The popcorn feature works perfectly. i tried the rice option, and wasn't happy, but I might have done something wrong. We've observed what it is doing with power level and time and manually cooked things like the famous blue box of macaroni and cheese, etc., with very acceptable results. Lots of other possibilities here for a person to learn from the auto settings and copy using the manual capabilities, but I'd like to be able to program the 18 numbers myself. One point... Panasonic attempts to make extensive use of lower power levels with its "automatic" features. So... it may take a relatively long time to cook something using sensor cook. I think the trade off is worth it in many situations, as the food is cooked quite evenly. Sometimes, a person may want to just "nuke" the item. This microwave cooks faster on full power than my previous microwave. Another point... As I mentioned, the term "Genius" is on the control panel. But let's explore what a genius would do if a person handed them food and wanted it cooked. Would the genius ask each person how much the item weighed, time and time again? I think a genius would get a scale and weigh the items so he/she wouldn't have to ask each person. Wouldn't it be great if the microwave had an internal scale and didn't prompt the user for the weight? Much of the work on the control panel is accomplished by turning the knobs. I was hesitant, at first. But it isn't a problem. I can no longer set the time for 22 seconds, as the scale jumps as you increase the time. For example, to get to 20 seconds, you turn the dial 12 "steps". 1-10 are one second apart, then the steps are five seconds apart. When you get to a minute, the steps are ten seconds apart, and so on. Whatever... it's different than a keypad but it works. One feature that surprised me, and I really like? The sensor/menu, time/weight and start controls illuminate when they can be used in whatever process you are working on. When the start button can be pressed, a little blue light next to it lights up. Seems silly, but the control panel layout and lighting makes operation in the dark work just fine. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this microwave. It is hard to believe that something that cooks food this evenly, looks this good and looks this solid is offered at this price. I think it is a steal given its abilities.

Works as advertised

Product delivered on time. Installation was fairly easy. A template was included with the manual. I drilled everything according to the instructions and had the microwave up and running within an hour. Cooks evenly, attractive design, longevity is TBD.

GREAT microwave. A must have for any novice chef/foodie !
Date: 2009-10-23 | Rating: 5
Install: Item is actually alot lighter than i had thought. Im a average size guy - 6'2 228lbs.. and picked up/mounted it no problem. The directions were clear, and precise. While i do appreciate the template, it was obsolete as im fairly sure my house was NOT built to code.. OF COURSE. i had to get creative with mounting it. If you use the template instructions, its easy.. but even if you cant - as long as you understand the general idea of "mounting heavy item needs screws into studs" you should be fine. After i mounted the bracket, i cut the exsisting wires that went to the previous fan/light and then connected my own wire set. I fished that up thru a hole i bored in the back of the cabinet and pulled it thru to the cabinet above the stove. Wired it up to a box/socket, placed micro on bracket, lead power cord up to socket and BAMO! we have a mounted, powered microwave. Looks: Beautiful. It wasnt even mounted when friends had said it was a very nice looking unit. (hey - we are remodeling our kitch on a budget.. ) Functions: I am blown away. the description on line was an understatement. TURBO FAN???? light, and NIGHT LIGHT DIMMER, and i absolutely LOVE the dial. u want a to control the minutes - no problem.. u wanna kick it up and jump ahead to advance minutes or pounds? just spin the dial faster and it will pull it up. VERY easy and i love the push button idea of it. u dont want the dial sticking out - push it in and it will hide away. Other functions and space: wow- it came with a slide in rack??? i can microwave a whole boat load of stuff. I could literally stick 2 of our old microwaves inside the cooking area of this bad boy.. Inverter turbo defrost: just that.. i mean the first time i saw this in action was at a friends house. 1lb of meat perfectly defrosted in about 3 minutes??? wow.. AND i LOVEEEE that when meat is half way done defrosting, it will BEEP to notify u that u need to flip it over. Sound: not too bad at all. alot quieter than our other microwave.. the turbo speed fan is kinda loud, but if u need to evacuate smoke from the area - its your best friend. Display: easy to read, bright. There were no reviews when i had purchased this item.. i knew it was coming because i had called Panasonic and asked why they sold similar items in canada but not US.. the rep just stated "next month we will have a series coming out that will be incredible. if you can wait, we d make sure you enjoy the micro". Also - what i had learned is microwaves cook at 75% power some of the time, and than switches to a significantly lower power rating.. this micro goes at 60%, 100% of the time. Its just incredible! Value: fantastic. go out and find a microwave that has as many features, that is over the range, and a rack, and everything else and tell me the price. u WILL NOT FIND IT NEAR THIS PRICE. GO BUY THIS UNIT!!!!

Perfect over-the-range microwave
Date: 2009-10-21 | Rating: 5
For many years, I owned a countertop Panasonic microwave oven and it worked flawlessly. I didn't need a countertop microwave anymore when I moved to a new house that had an over-the-range (OTR) microwave. This was about ten years ago. Since that time, I really missed the size, power and reliability of the Panasonic, so when it was time to buy a new OTR microwave, I shopped around and looked at almost every brand, and was happy to see that Panasonic made an OTR microwave. I must say that I am a deliberate shopper for almost anything. I research everything and look for quality, reliability and, of course, price. I read expert and consumer reviews from many sites, including Amazon. I looked at OTR microwaves in the $200-300 price range from brands such as GE, LG, Kenmore, Panasonic, Whirlpool, etc. The Panasonic was just plain nicer than any of the others. It was also larger and more powerful than most. The Amazon price, which I thought was extremely low compared to other retailers, was almost too good to be true. Plus, I knew from past experience that Panasonic microwaves were built to last and perform. So the decision turned into a no-brainer for me. First, let me tell you that the Panasonic was a breeze to install. Despite having a large 2 cubic foot cooking space, it was not overly heavy. In fact, it weighed less than the much smaller unit it was replacing. However, I would recommend that 2 people install it just to be safe. There are several ways for the exhaust to work and I suggest you read the excellent manual that comes with the oven before you install the thing or you may have to take it down to adjust it for your particular situation. I have a rear exhaust so that required me to remove the fan blower cover (3 screws) and rotate the blower motor 90 degrees (then screw the cover back on). Then I had to put some covers over where the blowers used to be aimed (easy--1 screw each). It also required a simple cut out of the rear exhaust hole on the back of the microwave (the metal is already crimped there and you just need some utility shears and a pair of pliers to remove the thin metal covers). Once that was complete, Panasonic provides a paper template so that you can figure out where to put the holes in the wall for the screws that hold the mounting plate in place. (You can also just put the mounting plate against the wall and do it that way, but the template was pretty decent especially if you are using rear exhaust like me). Don't just assume you can use the holes from your prior microwave if you are replacing it. In any event, you want to obviously screw the mounting plate into studs if possible. Even though the microwave will hang via screws from the upper cabinets in most situations, you still want that back mounting plate as secure as possible. If you can't get it mounted to all studs, Panasonic provides some drywall winglock anchors too. After the mounting plate is installed, the oven slides onto the pull out mounting glides on either side. The second person should then support the oven (just to be safe) while the 2 top mounting screws are installed through the upper cabinets. And that's it--your done! The manual that comes with the oven is excellent. I skimmed it in about 10 minutes and was ready to do just about everything. The thing that you will notice right away about this oven is that it doesn't have a numeric keypad. Instead, it uses a push out dial. I like the dial a lot. My wife was skeptical at first but even she likes it now. Push it and it pops out. Turn it slowly to add seconds, a little faster for 10 second intervals and a little faster still for minute intervals. It's just so easy and fast. Then hit start. For a quick hit, it does have a 1 minute button. Push it 2 times and you get 2 minutes--you get the idea. This is what I use all the time since I am always heating things in 1-3 minute time periods. It also has other push buttons for popcorn (haven't tried it yet), fan speed (see below), power level, etc. So you aren't using the dial for everything. This oven has 5 fan speeds! Most in this price range have 2 or 3. The "super" and "turbo" are the highest and I don't really think you need them too often. Their pretty loud too but biy are they powerful. The "high" setting is what I use most often and it works great and is quiet as well. There are 2 light settings--"on" and "night". Pretty standard but the lights on this thing work a lot better than the lights on my previous oven. The power of this oven is quite evident. It is not overly loud, nor overly quiet. But it does heat food quickly and evenly which is what I think everyone wants in their microwave oven. All in all, I would highly recommend this Panasocic OTR microwave oven. From its size, quality construction, handsome look, extensive features, ease of installation and stellar performance, you really cannot go wrong. Since I have only had it about a week (but have used it everyday since), I may update this review in a few months if there is anything else to add.

This microwave works well. If it lasts 10 years like our GE spacemaker - then I would say it is a great buy. The quality and engineering is excellent. Pros: 1) Closing and opening the door doesn't make nearly as much noise as the GE 2) Quieter operation when cooking 3) The range light can be dimmed (nice night light) 4) Defrosts more evenl5) 2.0 cu feet is nice when you need it 6) Intuitive operation -just turn the knob to necessary time & press start. Cons: None

Not bad for the money
Date: 2008-10-01 | Rating: 4
I've had this microwave for about 9 months now. It's quite powerful, doesn't take up too much counter space, and has a decent (albeit not great) look to it. [...]I would agree with the other reviewer about some of its design flaws, namely, the light doesn't come on when you open the door (the light is on only when cooking), and the dial method of entering the time is a bit unconventional, but you do get used to it. If you're looking for a powerful microwave but don't want to spend a fortune, this is a good option if you don't mind its few quirks.

Great microwave for the price!!
Date: 2008-12-26 | Rating: 4
You can't really beat this microwave for the price. As you may have noticed, a couple of other reviewers have mentioned a few so called "design flaws" but in my opinion those are easy to get used to. While I agree that this isn't the perfect microwave, I haven't experienced anything that justifies lowering the rating below 4 stars (especially considering the price to performance ratio). Let it be known that while I respectfully disagree with rating this product less than 4 stars, the content of the other reviews so far has been accurate. Anyone in need of a large, powerful, inexpensive (but not "cheap quality") microwave should consider this model.

A potent microwave
Date: 2009-07-10 | Rating: 4
I don't know what wattage this one replaced, but it heats food noticeably faster, and a good deal more consistently than our last one. Having used it for a month now, I like the spinner to select time. I thought I'd prefer digital entry, but the spinner is pretty responsive to how fast you turn it.

Great unit

Panasonic disappointed me with this model
Date: 2008-09-13 | Rating: 2
I just bought the Panasonic NNSD697S Stainless Steel 1300 Watt Microwave Oven, for $100 at Costco. I previously owned an 1,100 watt Panasonic microwave oven that lasted me for 8 years of excellent service before it stopped heating and then started smoking one day. So, I was pretty much pre-sold on the Panasonic brand. However, this model disappoints me. The LED time display is dim and reads "All 8s"; it is hard to see at any angle other than direct-on. The time has to be entered using a pop-out dial, or by the "1 minute" button. You can't use the two methods with each other; either you use the dial or the 1-minute button. The more/less time button only works with pre-programmed cooking functions, either reducing or increasing the pre-determined cook time by 10%. The dial adds time in increasingly larger increments; the more time that is entered, the more the time changes with each turn of the dial. At larger time amounts, over 5 minutes, you can only change the time by a minimum of 15 seconds at a time. Over 1 minute, the dial changes the time by no less than 10 seconds at a time. This is not precise enough for my liking. I would much prefer the old cheap plastic covered button press pad for entering exact times. I used to often use "99" seconds. One advantage of this model is that, with 1,300 watts of power, it heats significantly faster than the 1,100 watt model I had previously. For example, it will boil 24 oz. of water in 4 min. 15 seconds (with a cover on the jar) whereas the 1,100 watt model took 6 mins. or more. The light inside the microwave does not turn on when you open the door, which makes it very hard to monitor what is going on with the cooking/heating process. I consider this a major design flaw. The light in my previous oven did not burn out in over 8 years of heavy usage. The door only opens to 90 degrees; it should be openable further in my case because I have the microwave sitting at an angle on the counter and opening the door all the way would allow me to put items in more easily. This model is not customizable as my previous model was for such things as turning the beep on or off; it is always on, though fortunately it is not very loud. If this model does not last as long as my previous one, I will not be sorry; I'm already anxious to try another model as my experience with this one really has not been positive. In fact, I hope it fails within Costco's return window policy so I can buy another one.

Wonderful microwave
Date: 2009-10-28 | Rating: 5
This is a wonderful microwave that I purchased to replace a Sharp that just quit suddenly. I like the powerful quick cooking and it does a great job with popcorn. The door release/open button has to be pressed kind of hard for the door to open but that may be because it is so new. I love this microwave and all it's features!

Excellent microwave! Cooks faster than my previous GE. My son gave me for Christmas. Thank you.

Heats quick
Date: 2009-12-09 | Rating: 4
We bought this during a kitchen remodel to replace an amana over range unit as we installed a range hood. It seems to have plenty of power and heats everything very fast and evenly. We really don't use the microwave for much more than reheating coffee and leftovers. So far it is working very well for that. Will probably need to refer to the manual for instructions on thawing frozen items as Panasonic says it is unique in the power delivery for that purpose. My only complaint so far is that it is not real intuitive in use and the door button works ok, but is not very smooth. Make sure you have plenty of juice on the circuit you plug it into as it pulls over 12 amps on high. Overall very satisfied.

Just a Couple Flaws
Date: 2010-01-26 | Rating: 4
Four pluses, two minuses. First, this is a seriously powerful oven. Second, it looks almost elegant--especially for a microwave. Third, the Panasonic inverter technology definitely helps in thawing evenly. For me, this practically eliminates all microwaves but Panasonics from consideration. Fourth, I like the dial. Okay, now for the troublesome issues. First, as others have remarked for this and similar Panasonics: what on earth were the designers thinking with the awful display? Standing at normal height, you cannot read the display when you are close to the oven. Like, oh, say, when you are trying to USE it. I say I love the dial, but to use the dial to set a time, I need to bend over to counter height. That is simply astoundingly bad design. My five foot two wife has the same problem. Looks great from across the room, though. Second, so far when I've used the reheat sensor it has heated up my soup and tea until it is boiling. Perhaps this is operator error, but I'm not *that* dim a bulb. If I find the error of my ways I'll revise this review. Still in all, a solid feeling product that does the job with a bit of style.

DO NOT BUY
Date: 2009-11-13 | Rating: 1
Display is unreadable Light does not turn on when the door is opened Time input is hard to enter Sound cannot be turned off Sensor cooking and Inverter technology is good but they have completely messed up the basic design of the microwave.

I love the dial. Can we have more dials everywhere, please?
Date: 2008-05-15 | Rating: 5
I'd love to say that my relationship with microwaves is nuanced and sophisticated. They've been around for 30 years, I've been around longer - cooking and eating all the while. But no - the only variable I've ever set on a Microwave is "cooking time." Which brings me to my delight with the dial. Dial up the time, press start and it cooks in its monotonous, microwavy way. Better yet, the dial on this machine feels like the volume control on a fine stereo system. It's heavy and smooth, with satisfying, almost subliminal haptic ticks. No cheap plastic egg-timer hand feel (as with its sister appliance, the toaster oven.) Beyond the dial, it cooks like a microwave; looks really, really good looking; and is easy to clean.

I really like this microwave. The LCD display reads fine from every angle, so I've had no problems like a previous reviewer mentioned. It does beep five times when finished, which seems more than necessary, but it works great and has a really nice sleek stainless steel look. I love the pop-out dial, too. The popcorn feature works perfectly and it makes great baked potatoes. Just handy in every way.

Nice little MW oven. Fine for reheating leftovers and popcorn. Nice design except for a really annoying oversight: You can't read the LCD display! When standing all you can see displayed is 88:88. You have to bend down to the level of the microwave to see the clock, time, power setting etc. An odd and irritating oversight for a unit designed to sit on a counter.

Date: 2006-10-27 | Rating: 5
I did quite a lot of research before purchasing a new microwave. I knew what I wanted as far as wattage, size, etc. I've had this one for ten months now and I still love it! Very spacious for large dishes, defrosts better than any I've had(doesn't "cook" the food). Haven't had one single problem. Would definitely recommend this item!

Outstanding, So Far

I have only owned this oven for a few days so it is probably too early to give a definitive review, especially since reviews of other Panasonic microwaves have indicated problems with some of them after a few weeks or months. Nonetheless, I am very pleased with my purchase so far, including the speed with which I received it (within a week of ordering). It is a big oven and does require more counter space but it is attractive-looking and the extra space is in the interior where you can cook almost anything of any size. It is not heavy and I can move it easily if necessary; it has great features--the sensor heating, the various options which let the machine do the thinking or let you do it if you prefer. It defrosts perfectly and cooks evenly; it is easy to use. I have not tried the popcorn option yet but expect it to be excellent. Because it is a big oven, it would probably be best to have it on it's own electric circuit, especially if you are likely to be using other appliances at the same time. I do not have a separate circuit and have had no problems so far, but I generally use it alone or with things like can openers that are not heavy electric drains. Overall, I am very happy with my choice.

This is one fine product. I love the sensor reheat. It is very smart and works as it says it will. Also the turbo thawing. It has come a long way. No longer does it half cook food while thawing. It is perfect in it's sensing of time and weight. I would highly recommend this product.

BEST EVER

This is the best microwave we have had! It has lots of power when you need it and many levels of power to select when you don't need full power. It is very user friendly and provides visual prompts on how to operate. This is a great buy!

Perfect Size

Received the first one damaged in shipment but I'm glad I decided to get the replacement. Needed a small microwave to sit inside a microwave cabinet. The power has been good considering the size and fit perfect in the cabinet.

Much better than I thought

I replaced a microhood from a different manufacturer with this item, and I was pleasantly surprised with it's performance. It takes up less space in my kitchen than I thought it would and it works twice as hard as it's predecessor. I thought I was going to have to settle when I was moving to a smaller appliance, I was wrong. I am very happy with this microwave.

Great size, great looking

I love this microwave. I wanted a smaller size microwave but one that could still fit a full size plate. I don't do very much besides warm up a dinner plate. So this one is perfect for what I needed. I love the look and the knob is a bonus. Overall wonderful microwave! I am very happy with my purchase.

Great little microwave, but not perfect
Date: 2009-08-08 | Rating: 4
It's true, the display is unreadable unless you look at it straight on. It's hard to believe this microwave made it to the production line with this obvious design flaw. This is a countertop model. I'm 5'11", and I have to stoop down to read the display. My wife is 5'3". It's not so much of an issue for her. The unit we received from Amazon had another flaw. The four feet wouldn't rest flat on the counter. I solved this by sticking a 1/8" thick rubber "furniture protector" thingy under one of the feet. I don't think our granite counter top is that far out of whack, so I'm blaming the microwave. Even with the flaws taken into consideration, I still think this is the best microwave in this size. It has a nice solid feel, good buttons, intuitive controls, and it looks fantastic in our stainless kitchen. It's just the right size for our needs. We don't do any serious cooking in it - just reheating and defrosting and such - and for that, it's perfect. Some small microwaves don't have a rotating turntable. This one does, and a dinner plate fits on it with room to spare. We aren't popcorn eaters so I can't comment on how well it pops. Neither can I comment on its reliability, since we've only had it a month. If you research the matter, I think you'll find all brands have their detractors these days, and there's no obvious winner on internal quality. I did verify there was a Panasonic service center in my home town before buying.

Good looks/ Good power

We are very pleased with the Panasonic microwave, which replaces our old GE. If anything,it heats quicker than the old one, and looks a lot nicer with our stainless appliances. The dial-in feature is very convenient, and the unit seems sturdy..

Great product!
Date: 2008-07-29 | Rating: 5
I bought this to replace a 20 year old Panasonic microwave that finally bit the dust. This is a VERY nice microwave. Very powerful, and lots of nice features at a very attractive price. It's big enough to hold a full size dinner plate but fits nicely on the countertop. Ours gets daily use and so far we are extremely pleased with it. I would highly recommend it - I fully expect that it will give me the same good service that I got from my previous Panasonic microwave.

Top of the line INVERTER!
Date: 2008-11-27 | Rating: 5
Our 10+ year old Sharp bit the dust so I looked at the Panasonic Inverter Microwave. Paid a little more than the other basic models ($100-$125) but after using it for a few weeks, well worth it. The sensor button is great. You don't have to guess, is it 35 seconds or 54 seconds? Food comes out hot every time! Pay attention to the popcorn button. You have to get the size of the bag correct or results will suffer. Turbo defrost is another great function. 1300 watts will defrost most frozen meals very quickly. Interior is very large, but the entire unit is about the same size as the old Sharp and the interior is much bigger The display is a yellow color and is difficult to see from angles other than directly in front. The inverter is a way for microwaves to be generated at different levels. My old microwave would cycle on and off to maintain power levels less than 100%. The Panasonic just hums along at any level without the lights dimming in the kitchen. This is a high quality, LARGE, full function microwave. No, it isn't all stainless steel, and it doesn't cost $400. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to invest in a quality microwave that will last a long time.

So far so good.

So far so good. I believe that we had the older version of this one and it lasted several years. This seems to heat faster and quieter. Would recommend it.

We LOVE this microwave oven. It is small enough to fit in the boxed space in our cabinetry provided by the cabinet people. It is the exact size for the space. Not only that, but this microwave heats lightning fast! Normally putting soup in the microwave we had to heat it for about 4 or 5 minutes for it to be hot. Now it takes about 2 minutes. 1300 watts is a big difference. The price was right. I did a lot of research on microwaves. I wanted a stainless steel look as well. This is really a nice one as far as I am concerned. I'd buy it for any family member that's how much I feel that it is a great product. Shipping was perfect. No dents, no bruises.

I bought this model at Wal-mart, and came to Amazon to check for price comparison (Looking for microwave as a christmas present). I've been very happy with purchase. Microwave looks very nice, I have mine sitting on a stand. Nice features, large capacity, powerful, quiet, and heats very quickly/evenly. Would definitley recommend this product based on the performance of the one I purchased. Amazon plus-10 or 15 dollars cheaper than what I paid.

Amazon.com Review
This gigantic microwave oven services the family that is constantly eating on the run but has gourmet tastes that go beyond packaged frozen dinners. It is true that the oven takes up a great deal of counter space (measurements are 23-7/8 by 14 by 19-7/16 inches) but much of that space can be attributed to the large interior capacity of 2.2 cubic feet, which can fit an entire meal. The oven operates on a powerful 1,250 watts for quicker cooking and defrosting and has a sleek black exterior that looks well in most kitchens. Most home chefs will find new and innovative features on this microwave that blow away the offerings on their previous models. To figure out the best way to cook a particular food, cooks can access step-by-step instructions on the Menu Action screen. The multi-lingual screen displays information in English, Spanish, or French on how to perform a function. Panasonic's One-Touch Sensor Cooking feature takes the guesswork out of microwave cooking by calculating cooking and reheating times automatically based on the amount of steam released. As part of Panasonic's Inverter Technology, the oven also incorporates a linear power control for even heat distribution so frozen macaroni and cheese doesn't get hot around the perimeter and remain cold in the center during cooking and frozen chicken breasts don't cook around the edges during defrosting. Another major innovation in microwave technology is a warming and simmering feature that delivers low-temperature heat to keep food such as pies, casseroles, or gravy warm without overcooking them. For cooks who are looking for a shortcut but don't want to sacrifice gourmet cooking, this microwave is an excellent option. This luxury microwave oven is covered by Panasonic under a one-year limited warranty while the Magnetron tube has an extended warranty of up to five years. --Cristina Vaamonde

Happy with purchase
Date: 2007-07-14 | Rating: 5
Bought this to replace a 12 YO microwave. Was looking for a "large" simple to use replacement. It need to be simple as my wife is techno challenged :). We looked the old Microwave and you used the touch pad to enter the time and pressed start. It also has a Minute plus, press it for a minute touch it again for another minute. This fit the bill. Others I looked at appeared to be more complicated and had functions that we rarely or never use. Another plus this oven was almost exactly the size of my old one so it fit into the built in space and allowed me to use the old "frame". It is taking a little bit of time to get use to the timing. THe old microware took about 3 minutes to biol a cip of water., this one less than 2.5 minutes. Have burnt a couple of bags of popcorn, the old took 2.6 minutes this one still burns at 2 minutes. I saw this at a local store for $20 more plus tax. Shipping was free, which was a big surprise, given the size of this. Also was not charged tax. So with this unit having the features I wanted, free shipping, about $40 in total saving then purchasing locally, and not having to go to the store, get this fairly large and heavy box home and into my house this was a no brainer for me. Very happy with purchase.

My wife taught microwave cooking when the amama radarange came out. We bought this to replace another panasonic microwave unit. She liked it so much we bought a second unit. These units have a lot of space & power. Had them almost 2 years with no problems at all. She cooks with microwaves every day. Highly recommended.

Fast and Large Interior
Date: 2007-07-14 | Rating: 5
it is the fastest and has a lot of coopking space. Also, the fact that the start and stop buttons are raised buttons and not just flat pressure points makes a huge difference in regular usage. I don't use many of the features. Just fast easy to choose cooking or heating. This machine does it. It is amazingly fast/powerful. That's what I wanted. No disappointments here.

We bought this microwave to replace our old one that died after 14 years. This one is almost perfect. I do wish that you could use the timer simultaneously with the cooking process. Our old one did that. It's a small thing though. It has so much power that it actually fractured a plate I was cooking on yesterday. Hadn't seen that happen before. It happened at about 10 minutes while cooking the large pot pie. It's very big and roomy. It has a huge rotating glass tray. Overall I love it!!

Very pleased with this oven
Date: 2006-07-26 | Rating: 5
After having my first microwave for about 18 years, it finally died and I did a lot of research before deciding to buy this Panasonic. Having Amazon gift certificates, free shipping and a $25 kitchen and housewares discount influenced my decision and I have to say it was a great buy. I'm very pleased with the evenness with which it cooks and defrosts. I upgraded from a mid-size 650-watt oven to this full-size 1250-watt oven. I have to remind myself sometimes that everything needs less time to cook. However, there are a lot of pre-programmed features in this unit that make it easier. For example, there is a sensor cook button that selects the time and power level for different kinds of foods depending on how many times you tap the button. Types of food include baked potatoes, frozen pizza, frozen entrees, fresh vegetables, frozen vegetables and omelettes. I made a baked potato last night that was cooked perfectly. There is also a separate popcorn button (you can select from 3 different bag sizes) that also worked perfectly. A More/Less button lets you add or subtract time to the sensor and popcorn settings. There are a number of different functions you can select or turn on and off. Some of the functions include language (English, French or Spanish), a choice of pounds or kilos, child lock, reminder beep (I turned that off because unlike my old oven which beeped every minute, this one beeps every 15 seconds which was annoying) and menu action which when turned on guides you through each step of cooking. There is also a demo mode which is meant for retail displays but you can see how everything works without actually cooking anything. Some other useful features are delayed start where you can use the timer to set the oven to start cooking at a later time and a keep warm setting if you won't be taking your food out of the oven immediately. A Quick Min button lets you select 1-9 minutes simply by tapping the button the appropriate number of times. If you purchase this, I would suggest going through the owner's manual a couple of times. I went through it once before I used the oven. A couple of days later I went through it again and discovered that I had overlooked some shortcuts. The only down side for me with this oven is losing some more counter space in a small kitchen. Keep that in mind if you don't already have a full-size oven.

Fantastic
Date: 2007-01-26 | Rating: 5
I have always been partial to Panasonic microwaves and this is one of the best. It has had constant daily use for over two months now with an excellent performance record. In fact, I have only used my stove and oven twice since this purchase (for a large frozen pizza). The sensors are very accurate - oatmeal is perfect. With two frozen dinners, I had to add additional time, but everything else has cooked, reheated or thawed as expected. Earlier reviews mentioned resetting the clock and a loud beep. Panasonic must have listened to their customers as neither problem appears to be present on this model. With 1250 watts, it does reheat more quickly than older models so I would suggest reducing the time until you get used to your new microwave. UPDATE - 10/21/2008 - In December it will be two years - still perfect!

Best ever

I've never been so happy with a microwave. It is wide enough to allow the defrosting of a long block of chicken thighs, yet short enough to fit in the limited space I have to stash it. If you yearn for modest height and generous width, this is your oven. It's quiet. It looks GREAT. It beeps to let you know when it's time to turn something over you are defrosting, but won't shut off and wait for you to turn it. (Turning is optional.) It's clear from a bar indicator what power level you have set and is operating, which makes it easy to tell from a distance. More on defrosting: My last micro only allowed up to 2.4 lbs in the display, so for that chicken block I was eternally re-defrosting. Not this baby. Bring on your big freezer items, so long as they aren't too tall. Up to 6 lbs can be entered in the display. That "ENJOY YOUR MEAL" message that moves across the display when the cooking cycle ends is a nice touch.

Outstanding product
Date: 2007-01-12 | Rating: 5
Using for a month, it's a substitute for an old Samsung. Very very large, unless you're a professional cook you wont need anything larger.Economic. Uses half the time needed by my old one (served me well for more than 10 years). I gave five stars and could be six if it had a browner.

Better Than New?
Date: 2008-09-07 | Rating: 5
OK, maybe not better than new, but certainly better than old. My old Panasonic microwave finally went to micro-heaven after 21 years of faithful service. That's right, 21 years! I had been so happy with it, and with Panasonic, that I decided I'd try to duplicate the purchase. This one is as close as I could come (it even has exactly the same glass turntable!), with some great new features. Some reviewers have expressed worries about durability. My guess is 21 years isn't a realistic expectation for anything these days (microwaves, TVs, cars, marriages). But if memory serves I paid around $350 for its predecessor back in the 80s, a unit that was much heavier, had fewer features, and was more difficult to program and use. Although the interior is slightly shorter, everything else on this microwave is a logical update on the old one. My only problem? After 21 years I had all the settings memorized for my favorite cooking chores. This unit is more powerful, and I'm having to experiment to find new ones. Bottom line...so far, so great!

Panasonic NN-H765WF 1.6, 1250 Watt Microwave
Date: 2007-01-05 | Rating: 5
Purchased this to replace an older Panasonic unit that caught fire. It is well made, stays "put" on the counter when pushing selections. The Sensor Reheat seems to work well. I like the way the door works. At 1.6 cubes it is fairly large, but the foot print for counter space is not much more than the 1 cube that I replaced, and the height is about the same as my old unit. Also very quiet operation is a plus.

Panasonic Microwave with inverter
Date: 2007-03-26 | Rating: 5
The inverter technology makes microwaving foods dramatically better! Instead of short bursts of full power, which is what all other micro waves do when asked for partial power, this one actually powers down the microwave intensity. It eliminates burned spots, particularly when defrosting. Huge improvement, small price difference.

Love this model & the 'power down' feature
Date: 2007-07-01 | Rating: 5
When our old microwave oven died, I looked at a couple of stores for a replacement, but wasn't finding one that met my needs. This Panasonic microwave oven is truly a full size, except for the inside height. The one I had was a Sharp, 13 years old, and TALL...but since I received this one I'm getting used to that. The "power down" feature is an excellent improvement. I've used it several times when reheating something that had mushrooms, or a sensitive ingredient, in it. It also cooks other foods much better with constant cooking on lower power instead of short bursts of high power. It also stays put when pressing the buttons, and the lighter weight ones will slide every time. It accomodates larger plates & platters too. All in all, the more I use it...the better I like it. Don't be afraid of this one. It has my stamp of approval, and I'm very picky.

Excellent Oven -- measure your space!
Date: 2008-04-27 | Rating: 5
This is a great microwave oven. Cooks fast, cooks through, I figured the review that says it is HUGE was exaggerating BUT it is bigger than the 10+ year old oven I replaced -- It takes the entire depth of the counter/cabinet that it sits on-- But so far it is 5-stars.

Not so huge after all
Date: 2008-06-10 | Rating: 5
After reading the other reviews, I was afraid this oven was going to be way too big for my needs but it's fine; fits nicely on the same cart as the microwave I replaced (also a Panasonic and lasted over ten years)which was quite a bit smaller. I was tired of the black and woodgrain so ordered the white one and it's nice. Also, I always choose the super saver free shipping when available; this arrived three days after I ordered. I like the way the door operates and the functions are easy to understand. I don't use popcorn in a bag. I make my own and haven't tried that yet. Reading the candid customer reviews on Amazon really helps me make a choice in selecting products. The price of this oven went up $11 the day after I bought it! I'm completely satisfied with my purchase.
